Rugby

In my spare time in Berlin I play Rugby for BSV 92. Getting involved in a sporting organisation has been one of the best decisions I have made since coming to Berlin. The club has provided me with a wealth of new friends in the short time I have been there. This is especially important as I came to Berlin without knowing a single person.

Apart from the social side Rugby has provided me with another environment to practise my German skills. It provides a good balance to what I learn in class and a great opportunity to try out new words and phrases. I would urge everyone considering moving internationally ( especially alone) to consider joining a club such as this.

Here we all are at training last week.

In and around Deutsch Akadamie

Deutsch Akadamie is located in a vibrant shopping district. There is so much to see and do in the area surrounding Deutsch Akadamie. The Kurfürstendamm, KaDaWe the Europa centre and so much more make up the Wilmersdorf area.

The area is littered with fantastic pieces of architecture and and buildings of considerable historical significance. And what is more is the location is a stones throw away from Berlin’s fantastic zoo and the world renowned Tiergartgen.

This the Wittenbergplatz U-Bahn station. Apart from being a remarkable Architectural feat, with 3 U Bahn lines it enables students to travel to classes from any corner of Berlin with ease.

My Class

So this is my 2A class. There is a really good mix of nationalities at Deutsche Akademie. There was 10 of us from 10 different countries in my last class and this time round we have 10 people from 9 different countries. Students come from all over the world to study at Deutsche Akadamie, in my class we have people from Australia, Canada, France, India and more. There is a really good mix of people as everyone comes from a different background and we have a wide spectrum of ages.

Currywurst

So I decided to try the local cuisine. A Berliner favourite – Currywurst. It’s basically a sausage covered in curry powder served with lashings of ketchup. I have to say I thought it was great. At first I was blown away by the size. I have never seen a sausage that size in my life. I was a bit unsure about the currypowder before trying it but would definitely recommend it.

Hi All

Hi All,

My name is Will, I am 22 years old and come from Dublin, Ireland. I am writing this blog about my time in Berlin and my German language course at Deutsch Akademie. I am taking a gap year between finishing University and starting work in October. The plan is to stay here for about 8 months in total. I am hoping I will have a decent grasp of the language at that stage.

I have been in Berlin for 6 weeks now. So much has happened. I have met so many people and seen so much. Last week I completed my first course with Deutsch Akadamie (1B). The course really helped me build my vocabulary and gave me a decent base for my grammer.
