Class: 1B, 6 to 9pmSeptember 8, 2009.Well, after a nice slow first day introducing ourselves in German, it seems that we are now on the express train heading towards disaster. I thought the teacher was speaking too fast but everyone else in the class looked like they understood what was going on. It was not until after class when we were heading home, that 2 other classmates thought the teacher, Sebastian, was speaking too fast in the class too. A student was expressing herself in English during class as her German was limited, but Sebastian told her that it is a Deutsch Klasse and we have to speak in German. He would also not explain stuff in English. I understand the need to speak and listen to German on a regular basis in order to learn, but the school also has to bear in mind that at 1B level, our knowledge of German is very limited. Speaking to us at the speed of light would not make things any easier as it sounds like complete garbage, and flipping through the dictionary during class is a waste of time. Instead of benefiting from today’s class, I feel frustrated and confused at the end of the night, and my instincts tells me things are going to get worse. Oh Bettina, why do you have to teach 1M instead of 1B??
