Here is another tip for those ones who are interested in learning German.

When you are studying German and writing a sentence or a text, there is always a word that you are not sure if is feminine, masculine or neutral (you have 33.3% of choosing the right option and you always choose the wrong one!) and you can`t find the word in your notes/book from your classes at DeutschAkademie so, I will introduce you a webpage that you definitely must save between your favorite websites.

There is an online German/English dictionary that can be used either if you want to know the meaning of a word or if you want to know its gender.  This website gives you examples of how to use the word in a sentence with the exactly meaning you are looking for.

If you ever been to London you will easily and quickly recognize this sentence and remember about the good times and the fun that you had there visiting a sightseen or  a pub in Camden Town. But, if you belong to the group who has never been there, you must call to Lufthansa now and make a ticket flight reservation!

Where to visit? There are a lot of important points in the city that you can’t miss at all:

London Eye – A kind of Ferris wheel that allows you to have a complete vision of the city

Tower Bridge

Big Ben – Yes, it is Big Ben and not Big Bang. Actually what you can see is the Big Ben tower but the real Big Ben is the bell inside the tower. Unfortunately you can’t see it from the outside but you can hear it from hour to hour.

Camden Town – it is an alternative place let’s say but it is full of nice Pubs and different people.

National Gallery – this one you can’t miss at all!!! You don’t need to pay to get into the gallery and appreciate wonderful master pieces of art.

Trafalgar Square – it is a square in the center of London (in front of the National Gallery). It was made in honor of the Trafalgar battle and the lions on the square are made with melted bronze from the French cannons (France lost the battle).

Abbey Road – Beatles! Take a picture crossing the street in front of EMI Records, just like they did it.

Buckingham Palace

Sherlock Holmes –for those who are huge fans it worth, otherwise it is not that interesting because you will not understand a lot of things

Notting Hill – if you like the Notting Hill movie you can find there the book store that inspired the book store of the movie where Hugh Grant worked and met Julia Roberts.

M&M’s store – Chocolates fan pay attention! There is an M&M’s store in Piccadilly Circus where you can find different colors of M&M’s and a lot of personalized gifts with chocolate inside.

If you are going to spend a lot of time there you can visit the other museums but if you are going to spend just a weekend I would say that this is the perfect trip plan and for sure you can have a lot of fun just like I had with my friends.

Als ich in München gekommen habe, sehr oft viele Leute hat gefragt mir “Sprichst du Deutsch?” und die Antwort war immer „No, not yet“(Nein, nicht noch).

Ich habe nie über Deutsch lernen gedacht, weil habe ich nie gedacht in Deutschland zu leben. Einmal war ich im Internet surfen und zufällig ich habe ein Praktikum bei Kraft Foods (z.B. Philadelphia cream cheese oder Milka) gefunden. Ich habe mich beworben und hier ich bin!

Ich habe Deutsch lernen entschieden und meine Freunde haben mir gesagt DeutschAkademie war der beste Kurs in München. Januar ist mein vierten Monat mit DeutschAkademie und ich denke ich habe viel Deutsch gelernt. Meine erste Lehrerin war Veronika und sie hat mir A1.1 und A1.2 unterrichtet und meine zweite und aktuelle Lehrerin ist Janina.

Jetzt bin ich in dem B1.1 Kurs. Ich denke es ist ganz unterschiedlich von dem anderes Kursen (z.B. A1 oder A2). In dem B1.1 wir müssen viel sprechen und haben nicht zu viel neues Regeln für Grammatik. Wir müssen benutzen die Regeln, die Grammatik und das Vokabular wir haben früher gelernt.

Nun wenn man fragen „Sprichst du Deutsch?“ ich kann antworten „Ja, klar. Ich kann ein bisschen Deutsch sprechen und  ich wünsche weitermachen Deutsch in Brasilien lernen“

There is a lot of snow outside, it is really cold and you have no idea of what to do right? Staying home and drinking a hot chocolate under the blanket seems to be a good idea but let’s shake the ass and go to Ski!!

There is a fantastic place close to Munich that can be reached by Deutsche Bahn: Garsmisch Partenkirchen. It is a mountain resort town in Bavaria at the base of the Zugspitze and the only remote city a really high mountain (the tallest mountain in Germany) that you can reach with regional trains.

It is really easy to get there. From Munich go to the central station (Hauptbahnhof) and ask for tickets to Garmisch on DB information and reservation place. The ticket costs ¢42,00 per person and includes the transportation and the ticket to get into Garmisch. The trip takes about one hour and a half to the basis of the mountain.    

If you don’t have a pair of skis or clothes, you can go to Marienplatz Str. 18 (http://www.alpensporttotal.de/) in Garmisch and rent the skis, clothes, gloves, snowboards, equipments and everything you need to enjoy the sport. People there are really kind and willing to help you to find the best equipments and clothes for you. They also have a really good transportation service for their customers, so you don’t need to go by foot to the mountain. They conduct you there by car and pick you up on the way back.

There are some people who describe the place as a “Place with breathtaking views and a gnarled sense of autonomy”. I think that only from this description you should hardly considerer about going there. You will not regret it!

You hear on the news and read on newspapers and amagazines about the money crisis that some countries in Europe are facing but have you heard about the “Butter Crisis” in Norway?

The Norwegian butter crisis started in late 2011 when during the summer the heavy rains affected the grazing of the cows and the production of milk decreased what made the price of the butter increase in at least four times (this happens due to the supply and demand economic model for price determination in the market in order to achieve the equilibrium). At the same time, demand increased really fast due to a low carbohydrate, fat-rich diet.

As Norway wanted to protect their own domestic dairy industry against foreing competition, tariffs for imported butter were and still are really high, what contributes for shortages of butter in the country.  Due to the extremely high tariffs, there are a lot of countries trying to take some advantage over Norwegians now. Some people were arrested trying to smuggle butter across the border, while Swedes are offering to to drive butter to the Norwegians at prices of up to ¢59 per kilogram!

That is the price that you pay when you decide be a completely independent country and wants to protect your own industry by trying to avoid the foreing competitors. When you face a crisis like that one, the only ones who can help are the competitors but of course they will make you suffer a bit before helping. That is how the business world works. So, if you have at least one butter block in your fridge you should feel a very lucky person!

As I have on butter block in my fridge and this whole butter talk made me feel like eating butter cookies I will say goodbye and make some cookies!

Das Jahr ist fast am Ende so ist er Zeit zu erwägen das Errungenschaften des Jahres.

Ich denke 2011 war sehr gut. Es hat ein bisschen schlecht angefangen aber das Ende war sehr sehr sehr schön. Ich habe neue Erfahrungen gelebt und viele Leute kennengelernt.

Mein Abenteuer hat in München angefangen. Es war mein erste Zeite in Europe und Ich war sehr Glücklich. Dort Ich habe ein neue Job begonnen, viele Plätze besucht (Nürnberg, Schloß Linderhoff, Ammersee, Berlin…), verschiedene Essen und Getränk versucht und hatte viel Spaß.

Jetzt Ich bin in Italien mit mein Freund Filippo und sein Familie. Ich bin hier zu bringen Weihnachten und  Silvester gekommen. Ich habe viele Essen gegessen und viel Wine getrunken.

Is it insane to say that with these four languages you can understand a lot of the Italian language? Actually no!

If you don’t go very deep into the language you may never realize that are similarities between them. There is no better way of diving very into the language than visiting a place where the language is the main spoken idiom. If you go to a language school to lean Italian you might never see the similarities of the words but if go to Italy, and the most important thing, spend a week with an Italian family, you will be impressed to see how you can build a sentence or even understand a conversation if you now a bit of Spanish, English, Portuguese and German.

Here are some Italian words that I learn within this one week that I am in Italy (important detail: I had never learnt Italian before and could not speak a single word). These words were learnt only by similarity:

spendere (Italian) – to spend (English)

praticamente (Italian) – praticamente (Portuguese)

io (Italian) – yo (Spanish)

volere (Italian) – wollen (German)

grosso (Italian)  – groβ (German)

Ciao (Italian) – tchau (Portuguese – different writing but same pronunciation)

finestra (Italian) – Fenster (German)

pericoloso (Italian) –  Peligroso (Spanish)

Collega (Italiano) – Colega (Portuguese) – Colleague (English) – Kollege (German) – Colega (Spanish)

Days of the week

Different medias like newspapers, internet and TV programs expose to the public the idea that Coca Cola was the responsible to create the Santa Claus that kids know nowadays: the good old grandpa, with red and white clothes and a red beanie with some fluffy staff on it. It is scientifically proofed the creator of Santa Claus was the German cartoonist Thomas Nast in 1886.

Before 1931 he was represented wearing winter clothes but in green with some details in white and silver (typical color from woodcutters). What happened is that Coca Cola made a huge advertisement with Santa Claus but in red and white clothes, what was pretty convenient since those are the colors of their brand. The campaign had the objective to promote Coke consumption during the winter (time when the sales were always lower compared to other seasons). It was a huge success and Santa Claus’ new image spread really fast around the world, especially through kids (huge consumers of the product). Thus, Coca Cola contributed to spread and standardize the actual image of Santa Claus but it was not the responsible to create it.
