How Germany changed me

In June I will celebrate one and a half years of living in Bayern. And there’s some changes in my lifestyle:

  • I started to eat more bio product. A lot of Germans are going crazy (in a good way) about organic (bio) products. The prices are a bit higher but you pay to get better quality
  • Safety. I feel safe when I go back home in the evening. I feel safe in  public transport (bus, subway etc)
  • I started to travel more. Germany located in the middle of Europe so it is way easier to travel. For example it takes only one and a half hour to get to Salzburg, Austria. But the most important thing for Russians is that you do not need an extra Visa if you are traveling to Schengen countries
  • I fell in love with hiking. Germans are obsessed with the hiking. Me either. Two years ago I would have never believed that it would become like that
  • The most important thing is that I was taught how to take care of the environment. I’m trying to avoid any kind of plastic bags and to do the waste sorting more efficiently
  • And last but not least there is the funniest thing that happened to me: I have never eaten so much bread and sausage in my entire life. I do not why but for some reasons it is so delicious here.

My intensive German course

As I selected an intensive German course at Deutsch Akadamie my learning schedule is from 8:30 to 11:30 Monday to Friday.

3 hrs per day is a good time to put in for learning a new language.

Though it’s intensive learning, it’s not at all boring. Because here in Deutsch Akadamie very enthusiastic and active teachers are appointed for teaching.

Group discussion, games with partner, writing our opinions about particular subject, short trip and presentation are the activities carried out here.

So learning in such a way is a fun and not a burden.

Also hören, schreiben, lesen, sprechen (hearing, writing, reading and speaking) are covered in these activities.

Everyday homework is also given and it is corrected in the next class. This helps to concrete the vocabulary and whatever we have learnt on that day.

So always there’s something new in the class…may it be grammar, text or any new word game. So I don’t like to miss my class for any reason!

The heart of Marienplatz

Marienplatz is the most visited and famous place in the city.
Today every tourist knows that the first thing they should do in Munich is to visit Marienplatz. The heart of historic center of this beautiful city. City’s main square is dominated by the richly decorated neo-gothic City Hall. I was delighted by this place when I saw it for the first time. Since then I want to come back there from time to time. And the most exciting thing is that  every time I discover something new that I didn’t notice before. Someone says that the beauty is in the details and I can’t disagree. Another thing that you definitely don’t want to miss is the glockenspiel that you can enjoy at 11:00,12:00 or 5:00 p.m.

If you think that you know everything about this place, do not jump to conclusions. I would like to introduce you to the one of the most beautiful photo spot in Munich. As you know Marienplatz is the heart of Munich, City Hall is the heart of Marienplatz, but what about City Hall’s heart? It has 400 rooms and most of them hosts the city government. Isn’t it a bit sad? But what if I say that one of those rooms is an amazing neo-gothic library? It’s more than 100 years old and still publicly available. Can you believe that nothing has changed since opening?! It’s just a pure perfection, a masterpiece. Unfortunately, the tourists can’t get inside at working hours but it’s possible after closing if you ask staff to take a few pictures. I hope that after reading this article you want to visit Marienplatz for the first time or not it’s doesn’t matter.

Lively Munich!!

Munich located in southern Germany is a metropolitan yet a classy city.

You can see the ancient architecture throughout the city centre.

Also Munich is famous for its Oktoberfest. Every Bavarian enjoys it to the fullest.

Public transport in Munich is really commendable. Every part of the city is well connected with S-Bahn, U-Bahn, Bus or Tram…so even if you don’t have a car it really doesn’t matter! Rather it’s enjoyable in Munich to travel by public transport.

Deutsche museum, Munich residenz, BMW welt, Olympia tower, Marienplatz are the must see places in Munich.

Old Rathaus building at Marienplatz

My personal favourite is Marienplatz. Some may find it crowded but I really enjoy being there. Those who like beer can enjoy it in the large beer gardens and those who don’t drink (like me) can sip a coffee sitting in a cafe at Marienplatz. This place is always full of zest so I like it very much. Also here I enjoy shopping a lot.

I visited Marienplatz first time in the chilly month of February. Though it was 0 degree at that time the atmosphere was lively and full of energy.

So whenever I feel little bit gloomy or homesick I visit Marienplatz, spend some hours there and get recharged again!!

Different courses, part 2 – Conversation club intensive

So, there is also a Conversation club. I will tell you a secret to combining a Conversation club and an intensive course is lot of stuff but also fun. Although, I really liked this month and I would have done so again.

At the same time, the Conversation club will be useful to those who came to Germany for a short time. Just so you can talk in any store.

One of the classrooms

There’s also a grammar course. Be sure to pay attention to it, it’s unusual! There are no usual levels of language, but there are four large sections. I heard from my favorite teacher that this course is ideal for generalizing and structuring knowledge. So if you like I have been learning a language on your own up to B 1, then you will definitely need this course.

What will be in it in detail, I do not know yet. But maybe I will tell you more in the future =)

Different courses, part 1 – Intensive course

In Deutsch Akademie there are many kinds of courses. There is always a question which is better to choose. Of course, you can find detailed information on the website or from specialists at school. But I would like to briefly share my opinion.

For several months I attended an intensive course. It really was intense. You feel like you have German lessons every day and all day long because there was quite a lot of homework. But, of course, you feel progress.

Therefore, the main advice for choosing an intensive course will be the training of day planning. I managed to do everything because I love planning. I like when every minute is scheduled. If you do not like to do this, then choose a semi-intensive course. To determine the level of intensive course you need to pass the test. There are no exceptions.

It’s great that textbooks can be bought at school. You will not need to specifically look for them and spend time on it in a bookstore. Although I like bookstores, there’s not much fun looking for textbooks.

After the course, the books remain with you and you can additionally train when you want. This is also great.

Why am I learning German?

We moved to Germany 2 years back and are willing to stay here for several years.

Right from the giant automotive industry to the flourishing software industry Germany offers the hardworking and creative people a good future.

As I am a homoeopath, I too want to work in Germany in the field of research in homoeopathy.

So knowing German is important for me to work here as well as to communicate with the natives.

One year back I started learning German on my own and started communicating with the people whenever I got the chance and I found that German people get very happy if we talk with them in their language.

However my German skills were very limited and I realised that I needed special coaching to improve my skills so I was searching for good German classes.

After reviewing many finally I chose Deutsch Akademie as I had already heard good feedback from my friend and also I read good reviews about Deutsch academy. Furthermore in Deutsch academy it takes 2 months to complete 1 level of course like A1/A2.This is very convenient.

Also there are maximum up to 11 students per class so it gives fun of studying in group at the same time resolving personal queries and attention of teacher is also possible.

So right now I have had a good start and am sure my choice is always the best!

My first day at class!

So I have started my Deutsch learning in Deutsch Academy.

First day in the class was very good. I got to know my colleagues.

In our group, coincidently there are many girls and everyone I found very friendly and nice.

My colleagues are from China, Japan, Nepal, India, France and Brazil.

This is very interesting that everyone has a different culture and yet trying to mingle with the German culture by learning German.

Our teacher is very enthusiastic and with the help of different-different games she is making German learning fun.

I am sure we are going to learn good German and at the same time going to have good fun.

What else is important?

When I thought about the theme, I realized one thing. I only have a few blogs left! (*A little panic). It made the choice of the theme very difficult because I have a lot of things I want to tell.

What is important? I want to tell you about my new friends. It’s not a secret that many people in foreign language courses make new friends. If you don’t believe me, you have to come to the Deutsch Akademie and you’ll see. In this school, groups are recruited not only by language level but also by your specifics. Of course, this requires a very large test and an interview, but it is worth it.

Once you get into a group with people you have something in common with, it’s easy to find friends. What’s more, it makes the atmosphere in the class very positive. Usually, all courses last one month and the group will change a little bit. However, only a little, usually everybody continues to study for several months in a row and new people in the group are also interesting.

I often meet with my friends outside of school. Besides the fact that it’s fun, it’s also useful. Due to the specifics of our acquaintance, we speak only German and this is a very good practice.

Closer to the end

Toward the end of my blog, I want to go back to discussing what was happening in Deutsch Akademie.

What was my usual day? I used to come to class early. I’ve had time to get some rest and get my thoughts together. There’s a little place in the Deutsch Akademie that has coffee and water.  You could sit there before class, which is very relaxing for some reason. There I often did additional tasks in the German language.

Then I went to class and we had a little conversation with the teacher on various topics. Often it was funny stories or something about some events in Munich. At each class, we had a break approximately in the middle (* approximately, because we paused only when it was logically justified), where many people continued to do something from the German language tasks. Even at the break. It’s unbelievable! :) Another important little detail, almost everybody always bought coffee at the break. It was a tradition.

After the class, we stayed a little longer to talk or even go to the cafe after. This is a very positive time. However, one thing is very funny to think about. We spent a lot of time in Deutsch Akademie, so much like it was almost a full-time job

Learning a foreign language is a real job.
